Welcome

to the website of the Association for the Blind of WA.

You'll notice that our website is going through some changes at the moment. While we are enjoying being able to improve the look and feel of our website it is of crucial importance that it remains one of the most accessible websites on the internet today. If you come across any access issues, please contact us at consultation@guidedogswa.com.au.

Connections Project

We want to connect with people who have received services from the Association, their carers or family members, and donors. This will help us to gather feedback and plan how we, as an organisation, can better consult with and involve people in our service planning and delivery. Find out more about our Connections Project.

Help us take the magic of talking books further

Next time you read a book or page through a magazine, or even as you read the newspaper, think about how easy it is. Please support our exciting new project, Beyond Books, Beyond Barriers, to convert our ageing audio book cassette tapes to a revolutionary digital format.

Association Awards Program

The Association’s Awards Program is now open; nominations will close on March 31st so get your entry in quick smart! Visit our Awards page for further information and to access the downloadable nomination forms.

How do you show support for someone who can’t see?

The majority of Australians have little idea of the challenges facing those who are blind or vision impaired, but in a world first Guide Dogs Australia has partnered with Kit Cosmetics to create Support Scent, a fundraising campaign with a difference.

Touch Tours for Sculpture by the Sea

Cottesloe Beach, 4 – 23 March 2010

The Art Gallery of Western Australia will be providing FREE Touch Tours to vision impaired visitors at this year’s Sculpture by the Sea.

Participating in an event? Fundraise for us!

We are very excited to be part of a new initiative called Everyday Hero.
If you are participating in or running an event, Everyday Hero lets you easily build your own fundraising page to support the Association. All you need is an idea and a group of friends who you can email to invite support. Your fundraising page allows you to accept donations online, so you don’t have to worry about collecting money, handling cash or writing receipts.

Event ideas include:

  • Get active - take part in a fun run, relay or cycle day
  • Be social - hold a pancake breakfast, tea party or office function
  • Step into someone else’s shoes - take part in an event or activity blindfolded
  • Embrace your competitive nature - hold a tournament (golf, poker, or anything!)

Visit Everyday Hero to start fundraising today. No matter what your interest is, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

We would like to thank all members of the Western Australian community who support our work.
